Diminished 7th Arpeggios: Crafting Lines
Lesson TAB

Lesson Material
To show you how you might start crafting your own lines, here’s an idea that combines and adapts two of our previous licks:

The first part of the phrase is a very typical bebop phrase that uses the diminished 7th lick idea from the previous chapter but played with a pickup into a triplet rhythm. I’ve put in some suggested picking, but feel free to use whatever works for you.
The second part is repurposed from the Classic Sax Sequence that we used towards the end of Module 2:

I find this fourths movement gives a great outside sound that can be scaffolded around the basic diminished 7th arpeggio. As with the previous lesson, my example solo shifts around all the minor 3rd zones. The resolution follows the same contour as our previous ideas, so you’ll see we’re trying to embed this within our playing no matter the idea.
The great thing about this line is that it adds the extra tension notes from the H/W diminished scale we’re not getting when we just play the diminished 7th arpeggio by itself.
